History
of Roxbury

The
picturesque Cumberland Valley of south-central Pennsylvania is
the setting for Roxbury Treatment Center in the small,
university town of Shippensburg. Established in 1730,
Shippensburg is located on the boarders of Franklin and
Cumberland Counties. Shippensburg University was founded in
1871 and continues to be an integral part of the local
community. Shippensburg is convenient to PA Interstate 81
providing direct access from Harrisburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD.
We are a short driving distance from metropolitan areas
including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington
DC.
A local
businessman originally built Roxbury as a private estate in
1965. The architecturally state-of-the-art home is situated on
26 acres of rolling country land with beautiful landscaping and
picturesque views. In 1983 the property was sold and renovated
to become a small center for treatment of drug and alcohol
addiction. The facility was expanded in 1987 with the addition
of new dining facilities, further treatment and nursing areas,
and more bedrooms making it the beautiful building that exists
today. Roxbury offers a peaceful environment for individuals to
progress through their treatment toward recovery.
Since the
beginning, Roxbury has been driven to improve the chemical
dependency treatment process through applying the best of
current research and clinical practices. Consistently listening
to patient, community, and industry feedback, we have
continually evolved to meet the changing needs of our
consumers. In recognition of the diversity among those
individuals seeking our treatment services, Roxbury’s
philosophies and day-to-day operations have been modernized in
response to each individual’s unique and varying needs.
Innovation is the staple that has made Roxbury one of Universal
Health Services’ most successful Dual Diagnosis treatment
facilities and an industry leader among Behavioral Health
hospitals. |
