What is the length of stay?

Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit, 5-15 days
Adolescent Acute Psychiatric Unit, 7-10 days
Adult Inpatient Substance Abuse Unit, 14-28 days

**Length of stay is based on each patient's individual needs; therefore some patients may stay fewer or more days that indicated.

What should I bring with me to treatment?

We suggest bringing 5 days worth of clothing. Clothing should not be tight, revealing, sleeveless, or inappropriate. Unopened personal hygiene items, prescription medications, cigarettes, insurance cards, Photo ID, reading material that is recovery based, and stamps. For convenience, NA and AA big books are sold at Roxbury. For a more comprehensive list or questions about a specific item, please contact our admissions department.

What items are not permitted to bring to treatment?

Lighters, matches, pagers, cell phones, car keys, books, magazines, personal pillow and blanket, metal hangers, pocket knives, scissors, sharp implements, glass bottle items, perfume, oils, cologne, nail polish and remover, radios, plastic bags, lap tops, weapons, illegal drugs, candy, rolling papers, electrical equipment, band and/or music tee shirts,  hats, aerosol spray items, electronic devices including battery powered toothbrushes, and stuffed animals containing beads.

PLEASE NOTE:  You and your belongings will be searched prior to admission.

What is the visitation and phone policy?

Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit: Monday–Friday 6:30pm-7:15pm and Saturday/Sunday 2:00pm-2:45pm
Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Unit: Monday–Friday 5:15pm-6:00pm and Saturday/Sunday 1:00pm-1:45pm

**Accommodations can be made outside of scheduled visiting times on a case by case basis as feasible to accommodate special circumstances or the needs of individual patients.

Phone messages can be left for family members and friends 24 hours a day.

What is the programming like at Roxbury?

Roxbury has a highly structured program schedule and will be individualized for each patient to include psycho educational lectures, group therapy, individual therapy, art and music therapy, recreational activities, family counseling as needed, and NA/AA meetings.

What is the nursing/doctor coverage?

There is 24 hour nursing care as well as 24 hour-a-day physician coverage on all units.

Can referrals be made any time of day?

Referrals can be made any time of day by calling 717-530-2206 and speaking to our admissions department.

Can I buy cigarettes while in treatment?

Cigarettes cannot be bought while in treatment.  You should make sure you pack and bring enough cigarettes to last for your stay.

Can I mail packages or letters/cards to my loved one while in treatment?

Yes, you can send mail and packages to Roxbury Treatment Center Attn: Patient Name 601 Roxbury Road Shippensburg, PA 17257. Please note that packages and letters/cards should follow guidelines under what to bring and what not to bring to treatment. Also, packages and mail will be subject to searches by our staff to ensure patient safety.
