Extended
Stay
Average
Length of Stay: 21 to 35+ Days
Designed for individuals with
chronic substance abuse and Dual Diagnosis issues who are in
need of longer-term treatment. Patients who may have been
unsuccessful in past treatment and recovery attempts, with
numerous relapses, and whose addiction has significantly
impacted their ability to live the productive lives they want
for themselves. Stabilizing a person’s mental and physical
health, educating them on their condition, and beginning the
healing process is the thrust of the Extended Stay Program.
Focus: Problem
identification and building a foundation for learning and
changing. A process of Discovery is started to uncover
primary issues and perpetuating factors to each patient’s
current situation. Detrimental lifestyle patterns are identified
and the process of change is begun. Treatment Care Plans will
guide a systematic approach to behavioral practice of new
ways of dealing with difficult situations, past and present
stressors, and adjustment to sobriety.
Pointing a person in the direction of Recovery and
preparing them for the journey ahead is the goal of the program.
Setting: As the Extended
Stay philosophy is to take the patient through exploration of
all aspects of his/her life, numerous small-group sessions are
utilized to increase the sense of safety and allow the
expression of inner-most feelings, thoughts and fears.
Each group is lead by a team – headed by a counselor. Psychiatry
and Psychology staff play a large role in uncovering the roots
of the patients condition and the barriers to growth. Supportive
clinical staff assist the patient in facing and overcoming daily
challenges while guiding them toward a more constructive and
effective lifestyle. Nearing the end of the stay, Roxbury’s
Aftercare Specialist begins to develop a plan for post-treatment
life. Patients will explore alternate, supportive living
arrangements; ongoing treatment options; services available; and
a host of other elements to make this recovery attempt more
successful.
